User Guide
We have seen several people wondering what they can and are supposed to do after registering on Serampore. Through this note, I think new members, as well as those who had registered here previously but found it difficult to figure out how they can participate here, will get a clear view. This note, however, is for the newbies. There are a lot more to offer, some of which we intentionally do not reveal here. Get contacted with others, listen to what they are using, and you yourself will figure them out. All you need is to spend some time here and the thirst of discovering the unknown.Invite

Functionality: This is where you score big points with friends and family. Send invitations to your friends and family to join you here. We are very grateful to those of you who take the time to send invitations. By clicking on the Invite tab you can send multiple invites with one simple click!
My Profile
Location: On the 'Navigation Bar', below the site header image.
Functionality: It is entirely your page. You can design it the way you want. But, please make sure that this is a site, designed for people of all age-groups. So, we would expect you to keep that in mind while designing your page.
Below are the things that you can do to add tweak to your profile so that others get interested in interacting with you.
1) Upload a picture to use as your avatar:
Either use a photo of yourself or something that represents your taste. Choose "My Photo" and then "Next", on the page it brings up, select "Profile Photo" then "Upload an Image".
2) Profile-Heading:
Profile heading helps describe you in short. You could write your slogan, any quote you admire or simply put the text you want. When you join, it reads your name in large letters with the word page following it. To change the existing heading, double click your name and type a new message and hit ENTER or click on 'Save'. It's that easy!
3) Settings:
Here is where you can also fill out and make changes to your profile ;on the right is "Settings" link where you'll find the options necessary to change your personal information and password.
4) Profile Appearance:
Themes let you express yourself more. When you join the network, your profile is set-up with SSN default theme. However, you can change this. Click "Theme" and edit the appearance of your page. This is yet another way to make the page your own! You can pick one of our pre-set themes or create your own by editing theme header-image, font-style or sub-header colour and many more options provided. You can even add your own CSS script. On your page you can also add pictures for people to see.
*If you are not familiar with CSS, we would not suggest you to mess-up with it.
Members:
Location: On the 'Navigation Bar', below the site header image.
Functionality: This is where you find new friends! The top five featured are some you may find helpful to you as they frequent the site and are typically familiar with how things work. Under them it will list, by newest, the rest of our members, including you! If you need to, click "Sort By" which gives you the other options "Alphabetical" and "Random" to help you in your search. On the left you can search by letter or by name.
And, if you want to filter your search, just click on 'Advance search' and find your friends by providing extra information about him/her.
Friend Requests and Personal Messaging:
Location: Top right hand corner where you will also locate your "inbox".
Functionality: Friend requests will show in the If you receive new requests or messages, it will tell you so with the "number of" next to these items. And, if your friends think that there is something that only you are to be known, they can send you personal messages which will be put in your inbox. I think it is needless to say that you can do it as well.
Chat:
Currently has been suspended. But, will be back soon.
Groups:
Location: On the 'Navigation Bar', below the site header image.
Functionality: Groups help you gather your like-minded people. You can join on of those, that are created by other members or create your own.
Each group-creator is provided with sevral administrative options. He/she can choose whether an RSS feed will be shown, the will have a comment-box, member will be able to send a message to an entire group, etc.
The group-creator can also put any HTML script or text or widget or video on the grou-text box provided.
Each group has its own forum. That means members can discuss matters right inside the group.
Magazines:
Location: On the 'Navigation Bar', below the site header image.
Functionality: Magazines let you express you thought and share with the world with the most convenient way. In fact, this is the most popular feature on Serampore. We have many contributors who post daily. You can write as much magazine-posts as you want and get comments on the bottom of it. Our crew-members encourage them and share most of the posts with all the members.
If you want your post to be read by your friends, then click on 'share', at the bottom of the magazine-post and share with your friends, having a Ning-id or import email address from your address book.
If you need help for posting your blog, please hover on 'User Guide' tab, on the navigation bar, below the site header-image.
*Don't forget to add 'tags', these help your blog be searched better.
Photos:
Location: On the 'Navigation Bar', below the site header image.
Functionality: Upload your photos and share with your friends. Each photo has a comment-box, where others can cast their views about the image, uploaded by you, and a rating system, which helps you know how people rate your photo, out of five.
We have written about the those features, that are most likely to be accessed by a new member. However, there are limitless things that you can do here. If you feel the need to get in touch with us, use the 'Contact' tab, described below.
Contact:
Location: On the 'Navigation Bar', below the site header image.
Functionality: This tab leads you to a page where you can either directly get in touch with the administrators or fill-up the form provided and get help from them.
Ps: Always follow the network-rules that you agree with while registering here. If you are noticed, violating any of those, steps will be taken against you. If you notice someone doing such, please contact the administrators.
